RADWIN: Effective PtP and P2MP Solutions for Demanding Environments

CIO Vendor In conversation with Aman Roy Chowdhury, MD, Radwin

Headquartered in Israel, with its Indian subsidiary in New Delhi, Radwin is a provider of wireless point-to-point, point-to-multipoint and broadband mobility solutions, powering applications including backhaul, broadband access, and video surveillance transmission.

Q)How do RADWIN’s systems ensure smooth operating in both licensed and license-free frequency bands in tough environments?

A) We provide solutions that can address unique demands of customers in licensed and license-free frequency bands. The systems offered provide a very high level of performance for a variety of IP and TDM applications under any traffic loads and link interferences. Our state-of the-art backhaul solutions, which are highly cost-effective, have already been deployed by India’s leading service providers including Bharti Airtel, Tata Group, Reliance, etc.
The toughest environments, such as dense urban zones with high interference and non-line-of-sight conditions, are quite a challenge for service providers. Our solutions and systems have overcome these conditions and enabled free flow of communications. Our ultra-capacity JET platform, catapults the customer forward by enabling expansion of networks and the ability to achieve higher net throughputs, while also supporting existing subscriber units.

Q)How does RADWIN’s broadband wireless access provide good coverage range and capacity without compromising on low infrastructure costs?

A) RADWIN’s unique selling point lies in delivering ultra-capacity connectivity in the toughest environments for wireless, including interference and non-line of sight conditions. This is made possible thanks to our unique time-slot sharing technology. Our software upgrades allow operators to plan investments in steps, thus effectively growing infrastructures in accordance with customer requirements. In Dense Urban environments, with high interferences and no line of sight; RW5000 JET, a point-to-multipoint solution fulfils small cell backhaul requirements through its
smart beam forming antenna with advanced air interface capabilities that provides a dynamic multipath handling along with low latencies. It delivers the highest actual capacity in its category! In addition, JET’s planning and deployment tools can streamline and simplify planning, installations and operations, which significantly reduces the total cost of ownership for small cell deployments.

Q)Can you give us an example where Radwin’s implementation has made a significant impact to the client especially in video surveillance?

A) RADWIN’s Point-to-Point (RADWIN 2000), Point-to-MultiPoint (RADWIN 5000) and wireless mobility (FiberinMotion) systems are the ideal choice for fixed, nomadic and mobile surveillance applications.
RADWIN 5000 JET is the ideal solution for wireless HD surveillance. It connects more cameras at a longer range, with greater system gain due to its narrow beam forming antenna (250Mbps per base station), increased uplink system gains and at 90 percent uplink traffic.

Besides, FiberinMotion delivers wireless broadband to vehicles, trains and vessels on the move, with unmatched throughput of up to 200 Mbps and wide area coverage ensuring service continuity at speeds of up to 250 km/h.
I’d like to mention the implementation of RADWIN’s solution to overcome terrain challenges in the Jaipur and Ajmer districts of Rajasthan. Through this project we were able to provide e-infrastructure and wireless access to 247 schools in these two districts. We used Radwin 2000 and Radwin 5000 networks in 5.8GHz.
Despite tough radio environments we have implemented a project for the Odisha Police for ‘Puri City Surveillance’ to screen real time video from the Temple area at Grant Road to the police control centre. The strategy was to implement 14 links co-located on the same tower, providing stable connectivity in high-interference areas, with greater capacity in PtMP. Similar to these projects, we will continue to push the boundaries and innovate more in the coming years.
